Raster Analysis using Open-Source Python In-Person / Online
Tired of relying on expensive point-and-click GIS software for your geospatial analysis needs? Come and learn how to utilize free open-source Python libraries to implement and automate your raster processing workflows! We will practice raster analysis in Python by conducting a risk assessment and cover the following:
- Differences between various Python distributions
- Python packages intended for geospatial analysis
- Interactive Python notebooks using JupyterLab
- Package management and virtual environments
- Reading raster datasets and exploring raster attributes
- Visualizing, reclassifying, and masking raster datasets
- Working with digital elevation models
- Reading and rasterizing vector data
- Calculating euclidean distance rasters
- Performing zonal statistics
Participation is possible in person at the Medford Data Lab (Tisch Library room 203) and online via Zoom.
The workshop does not require the installation of any software. The necessary software will be made available via an online cloud-computing interface and installed on all lab computers. Those interested in installing the software on their personal machine are welcome to follow these instructions: go.tufts.edu/installingPython
